Transforming Arts Education: Our Collective Mission

The establishment of the University of the Arts Singapore (UAS) is a milestone in Singapore’s arts education.

Building on the legacies and strengths of its two constituent colleges, LASALLE College of the Arts and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), the University is committed to collaborating with educators, artists, and partners—and developing new talents—across institutions, communities and industries.

The work of transforming arts education is enabled by a collective mission, with each of us playing a special role in shaping lifelong vocations and contributing to the public good. In the face of epochal changes—environmental, technological, economic, and societal—how do we respond to the new challenges?

The inaugural UAS Arts Symposium, first and foremost, offers a symbolic gesture of gratitude to senior arts educators who have nurtured successive generations of students. Following our Guest-of-Honour’s address and the launch of the University’s logo, the Vice-Chancellor and educational leaders will reflect on core priorities in arts education today. A second panel will deliberate on co-creating a new agenda for practice, pedagogy, and research in arts education.
